For children who are starting school for the first time, St John´s admits full-time in September, all children whose fifth birthday falls between 1st September and the first day of the spring term and offers a morning place in the Autumn term to all children whose fifth birthday falls after that date and before the following 1st September. Parents of children whose birthday falls in the Spring or Summer terms can choose whether they wish to accept the morning place for the Autumn term. All pupils with birthdays after January 1st and before August 31st will be offered a full-time place to start in January regardless of whether the morning place is accepted or not.

Prospective parents are welcome to visit the school by prior arrangement with the headteacher. Appointments can be made through the school office. Parents can register their interest in a place and an application pack will be sent when this is distributed by the Local Education Authority. This pack will outline the procedures to be followed. Should there be more applications for entry than there are places available, preference will be given according to the following over-subscription criteria:

Parental wishes;

Denominational preference (for Church Controlled schools);

Current family association i.e. an elder brother or sister in the school at the time of entry and the family continues to live at the same address as when the sibling was admitted or has moved to a new property within two miles (via the shortest available walking route) of the school;

Health reasons (for which a medical certificate is needed);

Nearness of children´s homes and ease of access to schools.

Parents have the right of appeal if their application is unsuccessful. The published admission number for our school is 15 in each year group and 15 for our reception class. Application forms for those children due to start school can be obtained from the school office at the appropriate time.
